QUICKBOOKS ERROR:-

Connection to the QuickBooks Company File has been Lost

The following error message is displayed when attempting to update (convert) a company file to another version (year) of QuickBooks:
Connection to the QuickBooks company file has been lost
Important: Use article SLN41481 if you are NOT updating your company file when you see this error.
How to fix it
  1. Ensure that the company file is being updated properly
  2. Ensure that QuickBooks is at the latest release (both the new and the previous versions of QuickBooks, if possible)
  3. Turn hosting off, if it is on
  4. In the later version of QuickBooks that the company file is being converted to, open a sample file (to be sure that company files can be opened successfully)
  5. If the sample file opens successfully go to step 8. If the sample file gives the same error, proceed with the steps below.
  6. If the error persists when attempting to open a sample file, repair QuickBooks
  7. Uninstall and reinstall QuickBooks, if the issue continues
  8. Copy the company file to the Desktop (only copy the company file, not the .nd or .tlg files that may accompany it)
  9. Rename the company file to something very simple and ensure that there are no spaces or special characters in the filename (for example, if the name of the file is currently My Business.qbw, change it to mb.qbw)
  10.  If the error message persists, attempt to open the company file in the original version of QuickBooks (for example, if the file is being update from QuickBooks 2006 to QuickBooks 2009, the original version would be QuickBooks 2006)
  11. If the company file opens in the original version of QuickBooks, Rebuild the company data and proceed with the steps below. If the company file does not open, go to step 17.
  12. Create a portable company file and restore it
  13. Rebuild the company data again.
  14.  Attempt to update the company file to the later version of QuickBooks again
  15. If the issue persists, attempt to update the company file to an intermediate version of QuickBooks, if access to such a version is available (for example, if updating from QuickBooks 2006 to QuickBooks 2009, attempt to update the company file to QuickBooks 2007 or 2008) Note: Ensure that this version of QuickBooks is at the latest release
  16. If the file converts successfully to one intermediate version of QuickBooks, try converting to the next intermediate version (if there is one) and then to the later version of QuickBooks
  17. If the file did not convert successfully or no intermediate version of QuickBooks was available, this company file is most likely damaged. Select one of the following options:
    • Restore an older backup of this company file and attempt to convert it to the later version of QuickBooks (although data entered since the time of the backup will need to be reentered)
    • Contact QuickBooks Technical Support 1-800-935-0537 to have the file repaired by Data Services (it can take as long as weeks for Data Services to repair a file, depending on their current work load, although there are express options at an extra charge)
